Riversdale School Competition Winner

We were honoured to be asked to judge local primary school Riversdale Primary's Make a Book competition a couple of weeks ago.  The children and their families were tasked with creating a book of their own, and the entires were FANTASTIC!  It was a really difficult decision, but after much deliberation we chose the wonderful entry 'Dogs' by Brian Picicco in Year 2.

We loved Brian's hand-written and hand-drawn pages, as well as the carefully cut out and stuck pictures.

We displayed Brian's book in our World Book Day window to be admired by our customers and we are very proud to have been involved in such a lovely project.

So well done Brian, and well done to all the Riversdale pupils who entered the competition!

World Book Day...week

World Book Day came, it conquered and has now gone.

I'm rounding off a mad, busy, fun and exhausting week of school bookfairs, author events and meeting new readers, with a cuppa next to a certain Mr Rosen.

This is Michael Rosen's head of poetry hair, made by visual artist Laura X Carle as part of the Southbank's Imagine Children's Festival. Best set of pearlies this side of the river.

Love is in the air...

Hello!

Firstly, please accept our apologies for the lack of posts recently.  Whilst being really busy is very good for us, we do realise that we've been a bit slack at keeping you up to date with the goings on at The GT. However, we do have a great promotion to tell you about, so hopefully you'll forgive us our silence...

In conjunction with Neverland Photography we are currently offering a free photoshoot with any purchase over £40 until Valentine's Day!

If you come to the shop at the moment, you'll see some stunning examples of pictures by Neverland Photography in our Valentine's window, and we think one of these photo sessions would make a really unique gift for your loved one, or for the whole family.

To qualify for the free session, you just need to spend £40 or more at The Golden Treasury, and we will then give you a voucher to take to Neverland Photography.  It's as simple as that.  The sessions are obligation-free but you can obviously choose to buy the photos at the end if you want to.

This offer is only on until the end of 14th February, although the vouchers are valid until August 2013.  Don't miss out on this great opportunity, we hope to see you soon!

Oblivion launches today!!!

We were very lucky, the kind people at Walker Books sent us an invitation to the launch night for Oblivion at The Ivy. This is the much anticipated final book in the Power of Five series and what a whopper it is!

Anthony was charming and funny, the food the drink was fabulous and the ice sculpture was EPIC!

We can't wait to plough our way through the book and our keen customers are desperate to get their hands on it too!

See the video of Anthony as he visits the Antarctic to research Oblivion.

Tesco has arrived

Our local customers are sure to have seen the new addition to Replingham Road in the last couple of weeks. It's been a long time under discussion, and a battle admirably fought by Southfields residents and business owners, but to no avail... Tesco has arrived.

It's been sad to see public opinion so utterly steamrollered by the powers that be, but the fact is, a vast company like Tesco can pretty much do what it wants.

Whilst there is little or nothing that can be done about their arrival, there IS still a way to show our feelings and that is by firmly voting with our feet.  Several shops are in an extremely dangerous position now, up against a rival with incredible buying power and a large advertising budget behind them. These local businesses have been an integral part of life in Southfields for many years, and I'm sure we've all been on the receiving end of their friendly customer service, quality products and community spirit. Now is the time to say thank you.

By continuing to use these local shops we can keep Replingham Road and Southfields Village going. Consider this - a couple of years down the road, do you want to see a street full of boarded up buildings, Pound Shops or chain coffee shops (and Tesco of course)? Or do you want to be able to buy quality staples and unusual products on your doorstep? We hope your answer is the same as ours, and we hope you will join us in committing to a complete boycott of the new Tesco.

To demonstrate the depth of feeling in the community, you will notice several shops with this poster in their window.

Most of these shops will have some form of direct competition with the new Tesco, be it groceries, wine, meat and fish or magazines.   Please think about it next time you go shopping and consider your options before you spend.

Thanks for listening,

The Golden Treasury Team
